Tips to beat the Summer heat in Panama City Beach

By Lucia Ceydeli

Happy Summer! The month of June has been the hottest on record, and in July, the fireworks and the grills are not the only things on fire, and in August the temperatures are hot and humid.  When the “dog days” of summer are in full swing, one is looking for ways to beat the heat and cool down. So, what would one give to see snow and icicles during the hottest days in the summer? No, no, no, let’s rephrase that! So, what would one give to have a snow cone, ice cream, watermelon, eat ice from the cooler, or have anything or something that would help cool them down from the summer heat? Shore Thing has some great tips on staying cool and beating the heat during these hot summer days.

Plan indoor activities

When temperatures are extreme, staying inside an air-conditioned or cool indoor space is highly recommended. The best movies are out during the summer but, the movie theater is not the only entertainment indoor place to dodge and escape the summer heat. Dodge & Escape, did I say. A great place to go is Just Jump, an indoor trampoline park located in Panama City Beach. Grab your family and friends and head to Just Jump and play a friendly dodge ball game and enjoy many other fun jump entertainment areas. The Escape Room, Roller-Skating Rink, Bowling Ally, Arcade are additional indoor fun places to visit to beat the heat.

Water Work

Being hydrated is the best way to keep your cool during the hot summer months. Drinking plenty of water is a great way to stay hydrated. Also, cooling down in the water is a great way to beat the summer heat. The Panama City Beach Aquatic Center is a great place to cool down. It’s a state-of-the-art facility with an Olympic size pool and a splash park for the little ones. Or, cool down by swimming, wading or dipping your feet into the Gulf on the most beautiful beaches in the world. But always be aware of the beach flag rules and use safety precautions when in the water. Head to the coolest waterpark in Panama City Beach. Shipwreck Island Waterpark in Panama City Beach is an excellent place for the family to have fun and cool off. Splash, slide, ride the waves, or float and relax in the lazy river it’s cool and a lot of fun for all.

Eat Ice Cream or a Snow Cone, or eat your Veggies and Fruit?

Eating Vegetables and fruits are more beneficial for one to stay cool, like a cucumber or watermelon. And research has shown if you eat ice cream, it technically does not help cool you down, and it is suggested to eat sweet treats that are lower in fat, such as frozen yogurt or Italian ice. But to pass up your favorite scoop of ice cream during the dog days of summer can be hard to do and having a nice cold sweet treat is pleasing to the pallet. I’m content with an order of double scoop Oreo Cookies on a wafer cone or a delicious gelato. Yum! Just don’t forget to grab plenty of napkins.

Sit by the Fan

Need to feel more of the breeze? Grab a fan to keep the air flowing it’s a great way to help cool down the space.

Fill a cooler up with ice.

Out on the beach? Fill the cooler and load it up with ice. When feeling the heat, grab some of that ice to help you cool down.

Sit under Shade

If off the beach, grab your picnic basket and blanket and find some shade under a tree. If heading to the beach, bring shade to the beach and rent a tent and umbrella for coverage from the sun’s rays.

Wear light clothing

Feel alright when dressed in the right summer clothing. Wearing light color and light weight apparel keeps you feeling a lot cooler and protects you from extreme heat.

It’s a Shore Thing; follow these tips to keep you cool during the hot summer months.
